Locally known as "Buah Kedondong" (Great Hog Plum).
Other names for this fruit and close relatives are Otaheite apple, Tahitian quince,
Jamaica plum, golden apple and wi. The fruit is about the size of an apple with a
pineapple-mango like flavor and crunchy texture. I found quite a number of Ambarella
trees on top of Jelutong Hill. The taste of Kedondong is sweet and sour. Most of it is
sour. In Malaysia, women who are pregnent sometimes craving for a sour fruits. Kedondong
is one of their favourite.
